Caroline Park – emergency medicine consultant

Caroline has been an Emergency Medicine consultant here for 22 years.

She is clinical governance lead for EM and a former clinical director.  She is the lead for medical students in ED at Heartlands and has been active in developing both our ENP and ACP programmes.

Caroline trained at the University of Birmingham Medical School and undertook her EM training in the West Midlands. She now lives in the Moseley area of Birmingham with her GP husband and has three children, two of whom are now at university.

Why Birmingham? “It’s a great multicultural city with arts, music, theatre, and good restaurants. It has good schools for all ages and lots of leisure opportunities for younger children and teenagers.”

Why this hospital? “I work with a fantastic team of consultant and nursing colleagues in the ED. They are hardworking, caring, supportive and humorous. They are solution finders and problem solvers. They are why I’ve stayed here for my entire consultant career. We are a genuine team. There’s a willingness to learn and evolve. The local patient mix is interesting; I still sometimes see new things after 22 years.”
