The Head and Neck Team offer a specialist service for patients with a Head and Neck Cancer.
The Team are a local unit who carry out diagnostic surgery, who treat low grade tumours and thyroid cancers. For patients requiring major head and neck surgery this will be carried out by our surgeons at either University Hospital Birmingham or University Hospital Coventry and Warwick.
The team covers referrals from Walsall, GoodHope, and Solihull Hospitals.
About The Team
The Head and Neck Specialist team is made up of a multidisciplinary group of professional and clinical personnel whose aim is to care for patients with a Head and Neck Cancer
The team have a meeting every Wednesday afternoon Joint with University Hospital Birmingham and every Thursday morning jointly with University Hospitals Coventry and Warwick. In the meetings we have a multidisciplinary team discussion involving expert advice from surgeons, oncologists, radiologists, histopathologists and clinical nurse specialists to decide the best treatment plan for all patients with Head and Neck cancers based on best evidence and nest outcomes.

Within the Heartlands specialist Head and Neck Team we have two clinical nurse specialists. Their role is to act as a key worker and care for patients with head and neck cancer. The Nurses will provide you with ongoing support through your cancer treatment and can provide you and your carers with advice and information about investigations, procedures, treatments, support organizations and any other services you may benefit from.
The Role of The MDT Co-ordinator
The MDT Co-ordinator, co-ordinates the multidisciplinary team meetings and helps co-ordinate investigations and treatment for patients with a Head and Neck cancer ensuring the team is working to Department of Health standards and to government targets for patients with cancer.
