FOI 0401 – Sheaths

University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB) completed a merger by acquisition of Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust (HEFT) on 1st April 2018.   UHB includes Birmingham Heartlands Hospital, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, Solihull Hospital and Community Services, Good Hope Hospital in Sutton Coldfield and Birmingham Chest Clinic.

 For the purposes of this request we have answered on behalf of the whole Trust.

 

Please can I request the following information under the Freedom of Information Act:

1. How many sheaths does your Trust use on average per patient per day?

The Trust does not record information in a manner that enables us to respond to this, so we are unable to respond to your questions.

The number of sheaths used per patient each day who utilise urinary sheaths will vary- this is depandant upon a number of factors, how well fitting they are, clinical condition and the patients ability to comply or tolerate the sheath.

Each patient is treated individually and their continance needs assessed on an ongoing basis to ensure the most appropriate products are used.

2. What is the average length of stay for patients using a urinary sheath?

The Trust does not record this information so we are unable to respond to your questions.

3. Of the total number of male patients with urinary incontinence, what percentage would use:

  • Urinary incontinence pads
  • Urinary sheaths
