FOI 0834 Deep Vein Thrombosis Hospital Negligence

Freedom of Information Request: 0834

  • How many hospital negligence claims have been made against the Trust relating to deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism (blood clots) in the last five financial years?
  • Of the legal claims referred to in question 1, how much money has been paid to those who have brought claims against the Trust?
  • Please break down the data to questions 1 and 2 by hospital.

The Trust does hold the information you have requested, however we estimate that compliance with your request would exceed the appropriate costs limit under section 12 of the Freedom of information Act 2000. This is currently £450. The appropriate limit would be exceeded if it would require more than 18 hours work

We do not have a database which records this information.  To provide this information we would need to review over 1500 case files, taking approximately two minutes per record, and 50 hours in total. We are therefore withholding this information under Section 12 of the Freedom of Information Act.

Please be advised that NHS Resolution may be able to provide this information from their claims database. You may wish to contact them using the details here.
