It’s nearly the end of 2015 and we thought we’d spend the next 12 days sharing some stories and successes from the last year from across the Trust, as well as some useful tips to stay healthy in 2016.

On the fourth day

A new £4 million state-of-the-art hybrid operating theatre opened at Heartlands Hospital over the summer.

The theatre, one of only three of its kind in the UK and a first in the Midlands, helped to confirm the hospital’s position as the regional centre for vascular surgery.

Mr Martin Claridge, vascular surgeon and clinical lead for the hybrid theatre project, said: “We have the busiest custom-made endovascular service in Europe – achieving outstanding results – and this facility has allowed us to treat more patients and push forward as we continue to lead the way in the field.

“For myself as the educational lead for vascular surgery in the West Midlands, I am also hugely excited about what this facility offers in terms of training the next generation of vascular surgeons.”
