Celebrate Diwali at Heartlands

IMG_1168Heartlands Hospital is inviting local artists and musicians from Birmingham to get involved with next month’s Diwali celebrations.

Known as the ‘Festival of Lights’, Diwali represents the victory of good over evil and light over darkness. Art and music projects will take place at Heartlands throughout October to mark the festival.

Last year the Hospital’s arts team ran a number of arts and music workshops, including performances from tabla musicians and henna painting.

Clare Murphy, music co-ordinator at Heartlands Hospital, said: “Diwali is a wonderful festival and we would like to hear from local artists and musicians who would like to join us in our Diwali celebrations. This year we would love to have a bigger celebration involving more members of the community. The celebrations that took place at Heartlands last year were fantastic and patients and staff really enjoyed the musical performances.

“We already have a tabla musical workshop lined up for our paediatric patients and other performances that will take place in public spaces at the Hospital.”

If you would like to volunteer and get involved with the Diwali workshops, please contact the arts department at arts.dept.music@heartofengland.nhs.uk or call 0121 424 0113.
