Diabetes Week 2017 Safety Campaign

HEFT has a diabetes prevalence of 20%, affecting 1 in 5 inpatients.

  • 1 in 3 of inpatients experience hypos
  • 1 in 6 errors relate to prescribing
  • 1 in 4 are management errors

During national Diabetes Week 2017 (Sunday 11 June to Saturday 17 June 2017) we would like to raise awareness for diabetes inpatient safety with the aim of improving our diabetes inpatient care across the three sites.

Our challenge is for each ward to devise an information board providing evidence based information on a diabetes safety topic such as Hypos or Insulin Safety. There will be judging and prizes for the best ward and two runner-up prizes.

Peter Shorrick (Midlands Regional Head Diabetes UK) has agreed to provide prizes and to help judge, along with our very own Chief Nurse Sam Foster at Good Hope. Heartlands will be judged by Matron Gareth Shaw and Dietician Joanne Edwards. Solihull Judges will be Matron Gareth Shaw and Dr Ali Karamat.

Keep an eye out on our social media channels during Diabetes Week for pictures and to find out how the judging goes.
