Diwali celebrations to be held at Heartlands

Henna paintingDiwali celebrations will be lighting up patients and visitors faces at Heartlands Hospital next week.

Known as the ‘Festival of Lights’, Diwali represents the victory of good over evil and light over darkness. A range of art and music events from henna painting to music from dhol players will take place at the hospital on 11 and 12 November to mark the Hindu festival.

Musicians from Cherry Orchard Primary School in Handsworth Wood and Waverley School in Bordesley Green, will also be at the hospital on both days entertaining patients and visitors.

Last year the hospital’s arts team ran a number of arts and music workshops, including performances from tabla musicians.

Clare Murphy, music co-ordinator at Heartlands Hospital, said: “Diwali is a wonderful festival and this year we would love to have a bigger celebration involving more members of the community. The celebrations that took place at Heartlands last year were fantastic and patients and staff really enjoyed the musical performances.”

If you would like to get involved with the Diwali celebrations or other music and arts projects taking place at the Hospital, please contact the arts department at arts.dept.music@heartofengland.nhs.uk or call 0121 424 0113.
