The Children’s A&E department at Heartlands Hospital, which sees 36,000 children and young people a year, can now offer patients an improved experience thanks to generous fundraisers.
Birmingham children’s charity, The Boparan Charitable Trust, Jaguar Land Rover PLC and Asda have donated a combined total of £13,750 to transform the Children’s A&E department. Along with a refurbishment of the department, children can enjoy new toys and games purchased for the waiting room area and young people have access to a newly opened adolescent room.
The adolescent room is open to all 12-15 year olds 24 hours a day, seven days a week and will provide them with a dedicated area specifically designed to provide an environment that meets their needs.
Dr Ola Erinfolami, clinical director for the emergency department at Heartlands Hospital, said: “I’d like to thank The Boparan Charitable Trust, Jaguar Land Rover PLC and Asda for their generous donations. It can be difficult for our younger patients to come to Hospital where there are unfamiliar faces. The refurbished facilities will enable children to be treated in an environment where they feel more comfortable and safe, relieving any anxiety for them and their families. We’re delighted to have the adolescent room and provide a dedicated area for teenagers visiting A&E where they will be treated with respect as young adults.”
Trustee for the Boparan Charitable Trust, Mrs. Baljinder Boparan, said: “As a small charity with a big heart we are always looking for ways we can support more children. It’s always good to go out and meet those youngsters who benefit from this support and see the smiles on their faces. I think the area looks amazing.”
Paul Goodwin from Jaguar Land Rover’s charity committee, said: “The department looks bright and vibrant. Seeing what a difference the refurbishment has made for children and their families visiting A&E shows how worthwhile it is to have raised these funds.”
