FOI 0167 Phlebotomy

I would greatly appreciate if you could provide me with the planned budget, actual spend and variance for the following:

Collection

  1. An expenditure report of payments to suppliers (per annum or monthly) over the last 5 years related to phlebotomy allocations i.e. Venepuncture needles, Vacutainer tubes, blood vial holders or other accessories and clinical waste disposal spend
  2. If possible, the indirect costs related to above i.e tourniquets (assuming they are not disposed of and re-used for other procedures such as cannulation), tube labels, and the human resource cost such as a phlebotomist/nurse time
  3. Cost of wasted equipment due to failed blood draw techniques

Testing

  1. Automated Full Blood Count (FBC) Analyser, centrifuge, clinical chemistry analyser and immunoanalyser runtime costs. Or the equivalent machinery used in your associated labs
  2. Prices charged to your CCG as well as other hospital overheads and indirect expenses

The Trust does hold the information requested above. However, we estimate that compliance with your request would exceed the appropriate costs limit under section 12 of the Freedom of information Act 2000. This is currently £450. In order to provide the information we would need at least six members of staff for at least half a day (a conservative estimate) to provide and analyse the data require. This would more than exceed the 18 hour limit set by the Freedom of Information Act.
