FOI 0299 – IT Systems

University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB) completed a merger by acquisition of Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust (HEFT) on 1st April 2018.   UHB includes Birmingham Heartlands Hospital, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, Solihull Hospital and Community Services, Good Hope Hospital in Sutton Coldfield and Birmingham Chest Clinic.

Due to historical differences in data collection/reporting across UHB and the former Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust some responses have been provided by hospital site.

Queen Elizabeth Hospital

I write under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 to request the following information.

1. How many computers in total do you have across your entire Trust?
6,500

2. How many of your computers are currently running Windows XP or Windows 7 software?
All PC’s are on windows 7 with the exception of 20 Machines

3. How many of your computers are currently running Windows 10 software?
5 for testing purposes.

4. On how many occasions in calendar years 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 (Year to Date) have computers across your Trust crashed and required rebooting. Please provide a best estimate if precise data is not collated.

5. On how many occasions in calendar years 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 (Year to Date) has your IT Department been contacted because of any computer problems across your Trust? Please provide a best estimate if precise data is not collated.

6. For each of the calendar years 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 (Year to Date) what is the longest time a computer was broken/remained unfixed and therefore was not used by staff anywhere across your Trust?

Heartlands, Good Hope and Solihull Hospital

I write under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 to request the following information.

1. How many computers in total do you have across your entire Trust?
7,838 (1,426 of which are laptops)
2. How many of your computers are currently running Windows XP or Windows 7 software?
22 (1 of which is a VM, 9 are XP machines and 12 are switchboard PCs that do not belong to the Trust but sit on the network).

3. How many of your computers are currently running Windows 10 software?
49 devices are running Windows 10 (23 are on tablets and in general use, the other 26 are for testing)

4. On how many occasions in calendar years 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 (Year to Date) have computers across your Trust crashed and required rebooting. Please provide a best estimate if precise data is not collated.

5. On how many occasions in calendar years 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 (Year to Date) has your IT Department been contacted because of any computer problems across your Trust? Please provide a best estimate if precise data is not collated.
