University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB) completed a merger by acquisition of Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust (HEFT) on 1st April 2018. For the purposes of this request we have answered on behalf of the pre-merger UHB i.e. Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

The Surge plan is currently under development.
5. When a patient is discharged, a copy of an example alert the capacity team receives e.g. ‘bed alert’
The team have a live bed meeting system which includes the ability to run as many bed meetings as necessary, there is Ward Viewer and Site Management Allocation system that all run together and interface with the electronic patient record and discharge hub management system. The Clinical Site leads receive text direct through to BB every time a bed becomes empty. We are currently developing a live screen.
6. Where the trust has a surge in demand in the emergency department the trust sends a message to the capacity team, please define the trigger points used and also an example of the alert.
