FOI 0380 Renal Patients at the Q.E

Freedom of Information Request: FOI 0380

Under the provisions of the freedom of information act, I would like to know the following:

  1. The total number of kidney patients under the care of Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham at this present time.

Date period is 20170801 to 20180830

We have 5,158 unique Renal Patients.

This is based on the criteria:

–           Any current inpatients under Renal

–           Have had an outpatient appointment in the previous 12 months

–           Have an outpatient appointment within the next 12 months

–           Any inpatient admissions under renal within last 12 months.

QE is the regional centre for most renal related issues and as such most patients that come to the QE will stay under our care; our catchment is as far as South Wales and Herefordshire.

As such our patients tend to be on long term follow up, often for life and they are rarely discharged fully.

  1. The total number of kidney patients which are treated at the designated haemodialysis satellite units if they are not included in the above total in question 1 at this present time.

As above

  1. The total number of all patients (not just kidney patients) that were treated at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in 2017 and so far in 2018 if you have these figures

288,405 total unique patients within the date range described above
