FOI 0460 2019/20 Fatigue and Facilities Charter

Freedom of Information Request: 0460 2019/20

Can you confirm your Trust has adopted the Fatigue and Facilities Charter? And can you confirm that you have a nominated employer representative for dealing with fatigue and facilities?

University Hospitals Birmingham Foundation Trust welcomes the Fatigue and Facilities Charter in highlighting many of the challenges facing doctors in training. The Trust has been working over the past few years in collaboration with the LNC, Junior Doctors (via the various forums which have been established to communicate directly with Junior Doctors), Junior Doctor Liaison Officer, The Chief Registrar role and through the offices of the Guardian of Safe working to improve the working lives of Junior Doctors. The issues raised in the Charter are by their very nature complex and need careful consideration and workable solutions adopted by both senior staff and Junior Doctor representatives responsible for the different elements of the Charter. The breadth of the charter is commendable but responsibility for its delivery cannot lie in the remit of a single member of staff but requires managers and juniors to work together to tackle the aspirations of the charter before it could be fully adopted. UHBFT is committed to improving the working lives of all of our colleagues working at the Trust and the Fatigue and Facilities Charter is a useful element of our toolkit to support the Trust in this regard.
