FOI 0524 Maternity Ward Visiting

Does your maternity unit allow partners to stay overnight with new mothers after the birth of their child? (Please answer Yes or No)

Yes.

Please provide your trust’s visitation policy for its maternity ward (enclosed as a   PDF  or word document or a link to the policy please)

We do not have a specific maternity visitation policy. However we can tell you that a partner is able to stay overnight when it is requested. It is preferred that the new mother is in a side room if a partner wishes to stay overnight, but every attempt is made to support a partner staying if they are in a three/four bedded bay, provided the other patients in the bay are supportive of a visitor overnight. For any other visitors, visiting is permitted between the times of 8am and 10pm. No more than two visitors at the patient’s bedside (excluding patient’s partner and patient’s own children). Children must not be left unsupervised with patients on the ward. No children under 11 years old are permitted to visit (excluding the patient’s own children).
