Freedom of Information Request: 0626 2019/20
University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB) completed a merger by acquisition of Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust (HEFT) on 1st April 2018.
Due to historical differences in data collection/reporting across the former UHB Trust (including the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB)) and the former Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust (including Heartlands, Good Hope and Solihull Hospitals) some of this response has been split by former Trust.
QEHB:
- How many patients have received an iron infusion in the last 12 months? 1989
- How many patients have been treated with Monofer and how many with Ferinject?
Ferinject Only: 1917
Monofer Only: 58
Both (Ferinject and Monofer):14
- What was the average weight of these patients? 75kg
- How many patients required more than 1 gram of iron? 52
- How many nurses and for what days and hours are your Iron infusion clinics available?
The Trust does hold this information but it is not centrally recorded. To collate these figures would require a manual review of workforce records which would take well in excess of the 18 hours allowed under the Freedom Of Information (FOI) Act, we are therefore exempting this information under Section 12 of the FOI Act.
HGS:

Monofer – 35
Ferinject – 3735

Due to differences in systems, we do not hold this information for Heartlands, Good Hope or Solihull hospitals.
