FOI 0678 Staff DBS & Criminal Convictions 2019/20

Biochemistry, Heartlands Hospital:

  1. Can you please tell me number of contracted staff (full time) employed in Biochemistry at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital specifically? 

69.49 full time equivalent working in Clinical Chemistry

  1. Can you tell me what level of DBS is required for each of the following roles if any: 

Band 2 

Band 3 

Band 4 

Band 5 

The level of DBS check required for each job is dependent on whether the job requires the member of staff to have patient contact as part of their role and whether the role is a regulated profession. It is therefore not possible to break this down by band.

  1. Can you please tell me which level is required for each of the above bands as well. E.G basic, standard or enhanced.

  1. Can you please tell me how many of these staff members hold a criminal conviction and or record that you’re aware off. 

The Trust does hold the information you have requested, however we are withholding it under Section 40 (2) (Personal Information) of the Freedom of information Act (2000).

If we were to gather this information by retrieving it from individual patient records we would be in breach of the second data protection principle “Personal information must be processed for limited purpose” as this information was not provided to us in order to facilitate Freedom of Information responses.

Section 40 (2) is an absolute exemption meaning there is no requirement to consider the public interest when deciding whether to disclose this information.

Haematology and Blood Transfusion, Heartlands Hospital
