FOI 0714 EPR Solution, PAS and ePMA solutions 2019/20

University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB) completed a merger by acquisition of Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust (HEFT) on 1st April 2018.  Due to historical differences in data collection/reporting across UHB and the former Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust this response has been provided by hospital site.

Under the Freedom of Information Act, please could you answer the following questions:

Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB)

  1. What is the name of the Trust’s current Electronic Patient Record (EPR) solution? QEHB uses an EPR developed in-house consisting of Clinical Portal and PICS (Prescribing Information Communication System) for e-prescribing, medicines administration, and clinical decision support.
  2. Are you planning to replace this solution, and if so, when? No
  3. Will this be via a formal procurement, and if so, which framework? Not Applicable
  4. Is there budget currently allocated for this project? Not Applicable
  5. Who would be the point of contact for this project? Not Applicable
  6. What is the name of the Trust’s current Patient Administration System (PAS)? Oceano
  7. Are you planning to replace this solution, and if so, when? No
  8. Will this be via a formal procurement, and if so, which framework? N/A

  11. What is the name of the Trust’s current Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Management (ePMA) solution? PICS (Prescribing Information Communication System)

Heartlands, Good Hope and Solihull Hospitals (HGS)

  1. What is the name of the Trust’s current Electronic Patient Record (EPR) solution? HGS uses an EPR developed in-house consisting of icare and Concerto
  2. Are you planning to replace this solution, and if so, when? No
  3. Will this be via a formal procurement, and if so, which framework? Not Applicable
  4. Is there budget currently allocated for this project? Not Applicable
  5. Who would be the point of contact for this project? Not Applicable
  6. What is the name of the Trust’s current Patient Administration System (PAS)? IBM – Hiss (AS 400), Concerto, Organiser,  Ultragenda   – All of the above are currently being phased out, to be replaced with Oceano, in use at QEHB.
  7. Are you planning to replace this solution, and if so, when? Yes
  8. Will this be via a formal procurement, and if so, which framework? N/A
  9. Is there budget currently allocated for this project? N/A
  10. Who would be the point of contact for this project? N/A
  11. What is the name of the Trust’s current Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Management (ePMA) solution? WellSky ePMA
  12. Are you planning to replace this solution, and if so, when?  Yes, it will be replaced over the next 24 months with PICS (Prescribing Information Communication System) in use at QEHB
  13. Will this be via a formal procurement, and if so, which framework? No – PICS is already operational at QEHB and we are standardising systems
  14. Is there budget currently allocated for this project? Yes
  15. Who would be the point of contact for this project? N/A
  16. What is the name of the Trust’s current bed management / patient flow solution? In-house solution
