FOI 0732: Electronic Prescribing and Medicines System

University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB) completed a merger by acquisition of Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust (HEFT) on 1st April 2018.  Due to historical differences in data collection/reporting across UHB and the former Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust this response has been provided by hospital site.

    It is an in-house system called PICS

Heartlands, Good Hope and Solihull Hospital

  • Who is the Trust’s current supplier for their Electronic prescribing and medicines administration?
    JAC

 

  • What is the contract start and end date for the Electronic prescribing and medicines administration?
    This system is due to be replaced with PICS in the very near future.

 

  • What is the annual cost for the Electronic prescribing and medicines administration?

The Trust does hold this information. However, we are withholding  this information, under exemption 43 (commercial interests) of the Freedom of Information Act: The Information is exempt information if its disclosure under this Act would, or would be likely to, prejudice the commercial interests of any person (including the public authority holding it). The EPMA system at HGS is also the pharmacy dispensing system and we will be looking to tender for the whole pharmacy system across UHB.

We also sell PICS to other Trusts. Releasing this information into the public domain may therefore prejudice the commercial interest of the Trust.
