Freedom of Information Request: 0753 2020/21

Please note that University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB) completed a merger by acquisition of Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust (HEFT) on 1st April 2018 – the data predating the merger for the former HEFT Trust and UHB has been combined for this response.

I am writing to you under the Freedom of Information Act. I wish to request information on the amount of stress-related leave taken by nurses in the last 10 calendar years.

Specifically, I would like information on:

1) The total amount of full-time equivalent (FTE) days which have been taken off work by nurses due to Anxiety/ stress/ depression/ other psychiatric illnesses in the last 10 calendar years (2010-20). This absence reason may be recorded as “s10” in your internal systems. Numbers should be broken down by calendar year.

2) The total number of nurses that have taken time off work due to Anxiety/ stress/ depression/ other psychiatric illnesses in the last 10 calendar years (2010-20). This absence reason may be recorded as “s10” in your internal systems. Numbers should be broken down by calendar year.

3) The total number of nurses working for your Trust, for the last 10 calendar years (2010-20). Numbers should be broken down by calendar year.

Please send me this information in an Excel spreadsheet, similar to the suggested format below:

For the year 2020, please provide the number to the latest date possible.

Please note that although it appears there has steadily been an increase in figures over the years our recording for reasons of absence has improved.
