Freedom of Information Request: 0828 2020/21

In line with the Freedom of Information Act (2000) I would like to understand the extent of access, assessment, and referral for symptomatic aortic stenosis  within  The University  Hospitals Birmingham  NHS Foundation Trust (Queen Elizabeth Hospital)   

I would be grateful if you could respond to the following questions:

  1. How many referrals did you receive for symptomatic aortic stenosis for the following periods:

 

  •  1st April 2018 to 31st March 2019?
  • 1st April 2019 to 31st March 2020?  We do not hold this information. Referrals are received for specialities, not conditions.

 

2. Of those referrals in question 1 (both periods), how many were offered a Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) Please see above.

 

3. Of all those offered a TAVI in question 2, how many were recommended by the: Please see above.

  • Interventional cardiologist  ?
  • Cardiothoracic surgeon  ?

 

4. What was the average waiting time for patients undergoing TAVI between:

  • 1st April 2018 to 31st March 2019? Average – 45 days
  • 1st April 2019 to 31st March 2020? Average – 40.5 days

 

 

 

5. Of all those referrals in question 1, how many patient died whilst waiting for treatment? Please see response at Q1.
