University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB) completed a merger by acquisition of Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust (HEFT) on 1st April 2018. Due to historical differences in data collection/reporting across UHB and the former Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust some responses have been provided by hospital site – Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QE), and Heartlands, Good Hope, and Solihull Hospitals (HGS)
I am writing to you under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 to request the following information.

The figures for April 1st 2018 to March 2019:
1.5 hour session – 383 (Nurse Induction, Band 5 Preceptorship, Care Certificate, International Fellowship Program, bespoke session for AHPs)
7.5 hour session – 212 (Understanding Dementia/ Positive Approach to Care)

* Methods of training for dementia awareness
A range of tiered training can be accessed to provide a minimum of Dementia Awareness training:
- Face to face Teaching 20 minutes Dementia in Trust Induction. Introduction to Barbara’s Story
- 1.5 hours Dementia as a Disability; Nurse Induction, Band 5 Preceptorship, Trainee Nurse Associate Program TNAP, Care Certificate
- 7.5 hours Positive Approach to Care for all staff groups
- Barbara’ story and Doug’s Story with reflection sheet used in face to face teaching e.g. Dignity workshops, TNAP. Available on Intranet QE
- Dementia Friends plus See Me Dementia Care Bundle delivered on a range of programmes
- On line Moodle at HGS and UHB Intranet at QE
- Pharmacists: Specialist CCPE pharmacy dementia modules available
- Nurse induction HGS contains a two hour module around dementia as a disability
- QE runs junior doctor Dementia Delirium workshops
- Advanced Enhanced Care provides awareness of 1:1 or cohort care

Number of patients seen with dementia as an outpatient: 576 (This data was collected for dementia specific services only e.g. memory clinics)
* Any community links with dementia groups
- Memory clinics run in conjunction with Alzheimer’s Society
- Dementia Council (people living with dementia and their family/ carers supported by Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Foundation Trust)
- Support from Alzheimer’s society and Dementia UK for resources and awareness raising days, dignity launch etc.
- Dementia Ambassadors teaching and conference presentation
- Tommy Whitelaw Tommy on Tour
- Dementia Friendly Faith groups e.g. Diocesan Dementia Conference and follow-up at QE
- Community based Dementia Friends sessions
