FOI 0847 2020/21 Neurosurgical and Spinal Procedures

Freedom of Information Request: 0847 2020/21

It is likely that the Trust does hold this information but our systems do not centrally hold data to this detail (which products have been used in different procedures), however this information is likely to be held in patients’ files.

Section 12 of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act makes provision for public authorities to refuse requests for information where the cost of dealing with them would exceed the appropriate limit, which for local government is set at £450. This represents the estimated cost of one person spending more than 18 hours in determining whether the department holds the information, locating, retrieving and extracting the information.

To collate these figures would require a manual review of records which would take in excess of the 18 hours allowed under the FOI Act, we are therefore exempting this information under Section 12 of the FOI Act.

I am making a FOI request about the number of neurosurgical and spinal procedures where the use of Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) sealants, Dural repair products, Dural Substitutes, Dural Grafts, Cranioplasty Implants and neurosurgical bipolar forceps have been used on patients in the period 1 April 2019 to 31 March 2020.
