FOI 0956 2020/21 Haemophilia Treatment Regimes

Freedom of Information Request: 0956 2020/21

I am writing to request some data under the Freedom of Information Act. I am looking for numbers of Haemophilia A, Haemophilia B, and von Willebrand Disease patients on different treatment regimens and treatment types. I do not need any identifiers or information about specific brands or preferences. 

Response includes Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham patients receiving treatment in the 12 months from 1st September 2019 – 31st August 2020:

Haemophilia A

128 patients received treatment:

  • 75 patients on prophylactic regimen, 53 patients on demand
  • 111 patients received Recombinant Factor VIII
  • 11 patients received Extended Half Life Recombinant FVIII
  • 26 patients received monoclonal antibody treatment
  • 7 patients received anti inhibitor coagulation complex
  • 4 patients received Recombinant Factor VIIa

Haemophilia B

20 patients received treatment:

  • 12 patients on prophylactic regimen, 8 patients on demand
  • 19 patients received Recombinant Factor IX
  • 1 patient received anti inhibitor coagulation complex and Recombinant Factor VIIa

Von Willebrand Disease

32 patients received treatment:

  • 32 patients received Human Coagulation Factor and Human von Willebrand Factor
  • 1 patient also received Human von Willebrand Factor alone
