1.How many hours training must your HCAs have completed before they start their first shift?

Our HCAs fall into two groups; those which are experienced and those which are not (SiW).

SiW receive:

Pre-Employment Training  = 14 hours

3 week induction programme  = 87.5 hours

Experienced HCAs receive 13 hours 55 minutes

2.Are your HCAs required to have any formal training before starting their first shift?

Yes

3.What type of training are HCAs required to have had before starting their role?

Both groups attend corporate induction which includes:

Health & Safety and Equality & Diversity workbooks

Information Governance & Security

Fire

Dignity & Respect

Trip hazards & incident reporting

Complaints

Health & Wellbeing

HealthWRAP (Prevent)

Infection control (hand washing)

Code of conduct

Payroll

Manual Handling Theory

Falls

Consent

Infection control

Blood Transfusion

SiW recruits also received pre-employment training and a three week induction (programmes attached)HEFT PET Programme cohort 16 SiW THREE WEEK PROGRAMME Cohort 16 v3 HCA Induction Programme cohort 10V2

4.a)Are your HCAs expected to have any formal training beyond being mentored on the ward, or being given supernumerary status?

Yes

Both groups are required to undergo the HCA Observation Competencies, totalling 4 hours

Experienced HCAs are required to undertake 3 days of role specific induction, totalling 21 hours 30 minutes (attached)

SiW also get 6 months educational mentoring and at month 4 of employment will start their Diploma Level 2 in Health and Social Care
