  1. Are processed red meat products – particularly bacon, sausages, ham, salami and pepperoni – served to patients anywhere in your Trust?

Yes, We serve bacon occasionally for breakfast, ham in sandwiches and sausages in main meals and also as part of a specific finger food menu for those who have difficulty with cutlery.

2.     Is your Trust able to cater for vegan* hospital patients and, if so, could you please provide me with an example of 5-days worth of meal options for vegan patients?

(*Vegans consume no animal products, including meat, fish, dairy products, eggs and honey.)

Yes and the menus are below.  Please note that vegan meals are prepared separately but in a multi-kitchen environment.

Mixed vegetable curry

A mixture of onions, diced potatoes, mixed vegetables in a curry sauce

Vegetable ratatouille

Lightly fried diced onions , mushrooms, courgettes, aubergines, diced red and green peppers , chopped tomatoes in a rich herb tomato sauce

Spring vegetable casserole

Lightly fried diced onions with whole green beans, sliced carrots, broccoli florets, sweetcorn , mushrooms, courgettes, aubergines, diced red & green peppers, cooked in a a vegetable stock with herbs

Mixed bean goulash

A variety of beans (broad beans, green beans, kidney beans, haricot beans butter, red yellow & green peppers) onions in a tomato and paprika sauce

Sweet & sour vegetables

A variety of vegetables, onions, pineapple in a tomato sauce sweetened with pineapple juice and brown sugar and soured with white wine vinegar and soya sauce

Boston beans

A mixture of haricot beans, red kidney beans, butter beans, onions in a tomato sauce

Plain salad

(Lettuce, tomato, cucumber, salad cress, grated carrot)

Wholemeal / white green salad sandwich

(Wholemeal or white bread sandwich with lettuce, sliced cucumber and tomatoes)
