Are there any duties that an agency nurse would not be allowed to carry out that a staff nurse of the same rank would be?

This information relates to external agency nurses and not nurses employed through the Trust Nurse Bank.

Agency nurses would not be able to undertake the following duties

  • Administration of medication via the Trust E.P System but can administer from a paper drug chart.
  • Undertake the  lead or second checker for the administration of blood products as they would not have undertaken Trust competency
  • Administration of Intravenous Medication.
  •  To take charge of the ward we always use agency nurses as the second nurse
  • Undertake nurse led discharge
