FOI 4477 Maternity information packs

Which commercial organisations are permitted to promote or distribute their products or the products of other organisations in the Trust’s maternity wards; what revenues accrue to the Trust from that activity; and what evidence is there that patients welcome such activity?

Where possible could we have the figures for the revenues accrued over the last 5 years?

We have one commercial organisation which promotes or distribute products in maternity wards , this is Bounty, who provide product samples and information for new mothers.

The revenues for the last five years are:

2012/13: £35,900.00

2013/14: £ 20,181.05

2014/15  £14,188.65

2015/16: £18,309.99

2016/17: £8495.64  (April to July)

We do not have hard evidence that patients welcome such activity. However, anecdotal evidence suggests that women are keen to have a Bounty pack for both the samples and information provided.
