FOI 4537 Parking, wifi and complaints

  1. What car parking exemptions or concessions, if any, do you offer for cancer patients? We offer a £10 for 20 exits concession ticket for cancer patients.  This means that patients pay 50p per visit regardless of length of stay and is valid for a period of 90 days.

 

  1. Where a child is under 17, do these exemptions or concessions for cancer patients apply to their parent or guardian? Yes, we offer this concession to the patients carer/patient where they are under 17 years of age.

 

  1. Do exemptions or concessions apply to cancer patients who are attending follow up appointments (i.e. they are not undergoing active treatment)? The concession is only available to those patients undergoing treatment.

 

  1. How many exemptions have been awarded in the years 2011/12, 2012/13, 2013/14, 2014/15, 2015/16 for: The 20 exit concession was introduced in September 2013 but we do not keep a record of the patient groups the exemptions are awarded to, therefore we cannot provide this information.
  1. Parents of children with cancer
  2. Young people (17-25 years old) with cancer

 

  1. Where do you display information about parking concessions or exemptions/how are those eligible informed? Information regarding our parking concessions are displayed on the Trust website and at our parking offices at each site.
  2. How many complaints have you received from cancer patients under 25 years old or parents of children with cancer regarding car parking charges or information about car parking charges in the following years?

We have had no complaints relating to car parking from cancer patients (or their parents) under 25 years old

  1. Do you have wireless internet (wi-fi) available to cancer patients under 25 years old and their families on the appropriate ward and/or elsewhere in the hospital? Yes ward 19 (cancer ward), Birmingham Heartlands Hospital.

 

  1. If so, is this free or is there a charge for this? (Please include details where there is an initial free period, followed by charged access) yes
  2. What is the internet connection speed? (Please specify the speed in the areas where young cancer patients access, for example the wards) 10mb link shared
  3. How many complaints have you received from cancer patients under 25 years old or parents of children with cancer regarding access to the internet or wi-fi in your hospital in the following years?

We have had no complaints relating to access to the internet or wi-fi from cancer patients (or their parents) under 25 years old.
