FOI 4728 Medical Students

I would be grateful if you could inform me of the amount of money Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust receives for each medical student being trained at this trust each year and a breakdown of how the money is spent. I’d like the information for the academic year 2015-2016.

The national benchmark tariff in 2015/16 was set at £33,965 for each medical student, the Trust receives a percentage of the tariff whilst students are on placement at the Trust.

The Trust received a total of £4.218m in 2015/16 and this was spent on pay  (staff directly involved in class room based training provided to the medical students) £0.950m, non-pay (including student travel expenses, library  and other equipment and administration) of £0.039m and embedded expenditure for training the medical students in the field (consultant training time, training equipment and facilities costs) of £3.229m.
