FOI 4884 Services for disadvantaged women

1) What services are you currently commissioned to deliver specifically for women affected by:

substance use problems

  • The Trust  has in place a specialised service for pregnant women who substance misuse with a dedicated antenatal clinic on two maternity sites Birmingham Heartlands Hospital  & Good Hope Hospital
  • The Trust  has in place guidelines for Pregnant Women who Substance Misuse
  • The Trust employs two Specialist Midwives for Pregnant Women who Substance Misuse to work across the 3 maternity sites – in total specialist midwives for pregnant women who substance misuse equate to 1.6 WTE.
  • Specialist Midwives for Pregnant Women who Substance Misuse network with local drug services
  • Average new referrals to specialist midwife into service per month = 36
  • Service has been place since 2009.

mental health problems

  • The Trust has in place an established dedicated service for Perinatal Mental Health across the 3 maternity sites.
  • The Trust  has employed 3 Specialist Midwives for Perinatal Mental Health – in total specialist midwives for perinatal mental health equate to 2.2 WTE across the 3 maternity sites
  • Each Specialist Midwife in Perinatal Mental Health has in place dedicated clinics for referral for pregnant women with mental health concerns = 6 slots per clinic
  • The Trust  has in place Perinatal Mental Health Guidelines for Pregnant Women
  • The Trust  has a Consultant Obstetrician with an interest in Perinatal Mental Health
  • The Trust has in place a joint working Perinatal Mental Health Antenatal Clinic with a dedicated Consultant Psychiatrist and CPN from Birmingham & Solihull Mental Health Foundation Trust (BSMHFT) this clinic is held weekly within the maternity unit at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital, every fortnight at Solihull Hospital and Good Hope Hospital.
  • Service has been in place for over 10 years, recently under a SLA with BSMHFT

 

Homelessness

  • The Trust  has employed since April 2016 a Specialist Midwife for Asylum Seeking, Migrant & Homeless Pregnant Women – equates to 0.6 WTE across the 3 maternity sites at HEFT
  • The Trust  has in place within maternity pathways for referral of homeless pregnant women  to the specialist midwife
  • Since April 2016, the Specialist Midwife for Asylum Seeking, Migrant & Homeless Pregnant women has had 40 pregnant women referred through the service for homelessness
  • Training Awareness – Midwives are currently receiving an awareness training in regards to homeless pregnant women on their mandatory midwifery training day.
  • Specialist Midwife for Asylum Seeking, Migrant & Homeless women networks with local community groups/housing/home office and internal Trust Adult Safeguarding
  • Service was commenced April 2016 through commissioning

 

involvement in offending – no specific service currently but a number of specialisms will link when required on a case by case basis in particular Teenage Pregnancy .
