FOI 5057 Surgery

Could you please kindly supply me with the following for the periods of June 1 – August 31 2016 and November 1 2016 – January 31 2017:

  1. The total number of hours of elective inpatient surgery scheduled. We do not hold this information as  we level schedule and have day case and inpatient through the same theatres as well as some emergencies
  2. The number of hours of planned elective inpatient surgery that were cancelled due to a lack of capacity, beds or staff. We do not hold this information, although we hold data on the number and reasons for cancelled operations, we don’t collect information in terms of the number of hours scheduled.
  3. The total number of hours of late starts to individual elective inpatient surgeries due to a lack of capacity, beds or staff, and the range of delayed starts for each period. We do not hold this information as it is not collected at an individual patient level.
  4. The total number of hours of turnaround time between elective inpatient surgeries, and the range of turnaround times for each period again not readily available.  We do not hold this information as we collate utilisation based on touch time but don’t collate turnaround.  Equally our lists are not run as exclusively inpatient surgeries.
  5. I would also appreciate it if you could inform me of the total number of theatres the trust has, and what each of these theatres are designated to be used for (elective, day, emergency etc).

There are 30 theatres across three sites.

23 are primarily or elective surgery

4 are for day-case elective surgery

3 are for emergency surgery
