Freedom of Information Request: FOI 0509
NHSBT lists the stages of renal transplantation as, in order: Access-Assessment-Transplantation-Immunosuppression and Follow-up.
For renal patients on haemodialysis, could you let me know how much your trust spent per patient per unit time e.g. per episode, or per year on:
- i) Cost of patient access to renal transplant waiting lists, if any- I suspect these will be minor.
- ii) Cost of assessing patients pre-transplant; for example ABO and HLA typing, viral tests, cardiograms and anything else carried out or using resource such as staff time by grade, role, duration in the assessment of patients
iii) Post transplantation (pTx) the frequency, location and cost of followup appointments following the operation to death
This might be described in weeks as:
Week 0-2 overnight hospitalisation recovery £x/day, mean cost per patient per annum
Week 2-104 review 1/week, hospital, renal/ tx consultant, x mins duration £x/review, mean cost per patient per annum
Week 104 onwards review ¼ or ½ yr, hospital, renal consultant, x mins duration £x/review, mean cost per patient per annum
The Trust does hold the information you have requested, however we estimate that compliance with your request would exceed the appropriate costs limit under section 12 of the Freedom of information Act 2000. This is currently £450. The appropriate limit would be exceeded if it would require more than 18 hours work. We have calculated that to provide this information it would take longer than 18 hours, on the basis it would require checking over 2000 records, taking approximately 1 minute per patient.
