- Please provide information on how compliance with your formulary is enforced?
Pharmacies keep a small range of dressings namely those containing antibiotics and antiseptics and some interactive dressings. If the dressing is on the formulary it will be included on the pharmacy system. If a dressing is not on the formulary, then it cannot be provided.
The wound care committee (a sub-group of the Area Prescribing Committee) has harmonised all the dressings across the Birmingham & surrounds to produce one formulary. New products will be evaluated using a standard evaluation form in at least 2 trusts by the TVNs/DN & then any recommendations are then approved at the APC.

In the hospital, the acute Trust is responsible for the costs. Where the Trust community services team support the district nursing services, then the CCG is responsible for these costs.

Not applicable. There should be few FP10 prescriptions issued by the Trust. Only those required urgently should be prescribed form the outpatient clinics. Dressings which are required urgently should be those included in the formulary.

Only those dressings required urgently should be prescribed. There are no immediate plans to bar all dressings prescribing from FP10s. FP10s are used exceptionally. Most outpatients prescribing is undertaken on hospital outpatient prescriptions.

A significant review of the wound care formulary was undertaken by the Birmingham, Solihull and environs Area Prescribing Committee in Q4 16/17. A copy of the formulary will be available on that website.
The Trust formulary will be smaller, comprising a smaller selection of the dressings. We have on-going review of the products on our formulary, adjusting as required

No. however we do provide for inpatients.
