FOI0021 2019/20 Drug-Resistant Infections

Freedom of Information Request:0021 2019/20

University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB) completed a merger by acquisition of Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust (HEFT) on 1st April 2018.  Due to historical differences in data collection/reporting across UHB and the former Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust this response has been provided by hospital site.

Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham

– How many cases of drug resistant infections (both bacterial and fungal) have there been at your NHS trust in each of the past five years (2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014)?

– What were those infections?

– How many of those infections resulted in deaths?

Please see attached spreadsheet. Please note we have only identified MRSA cases that had any one drug resistance.

All other findings include organism infections, and the number of infections corresponds to number of the unique patients that had that particular infection in a given year.

We do not record specific reasons of death related to infection.
