With around 6,000 hip replacement procedures and over 6,500 knee replacements having already been carried out in the West Midlands this year, locals interested in learning more about treatment of hip and knee problems are invited to attend a free health seminar at Heartlands Hospital.
Mr Brian Banerjee, consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust, will take to the floor to also highlight what happens during hip and knee surgery and answer questions from the public on Tuesday 17 November at 5pm.
Mr Banerjee said: “Sprains and strains in your knee as well as torn ligaments are common causes of knee pain. Knee replacement surgery may be offered if your knee pain is so severe that it interferes with your quality of life and sleep or you have difficulties with everyday tasks such as shopping or getting out of the bath.
“Anybody wishing to know more about when surgery might be required, what happens during surgery and about recovering from hip and knee procedures should attend the health seminar.”
If you would like to attend the seminar, please contact Sandra White, membership and community engagement manager, on 0121 424 1218 or email: membership@heartofengland.nhs.uk.
The Trust – which covers Heartlands Hospital, Solihull Hospital and Good Hope Hospital as well as some community based services – runs monthly health seminars to help raise awareness of a range of health conditions, as well as providing information about the treatment and support that is available.
