Locals are invited to attend a free health seminar about how to spot the signs of prostate cancer, which affects around 800 Birmingham men every year.
Mr Bhupendra Dev Sarmah, consultant urologist at Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust, will take to the floor to also discuss treatment options currently available and answer questions from the public.
Mr Sarmah said: “One in four men with cancer is diagnosed with prostate cancer, now the most common of the cancers discovered in men in the UK. This is partly due to the availability of a blood test called prostate specific antigen (PSA) that can detect the early signs of an enlarged prostate and is the most common initial test for men who are worried about the disease.
“The seminar is also an opportunity for locals to learn about treatment options including new chemotherapy drugs for men with advanced prostate cancer.”
If you would like to attend the seminar on Wednesday 13 January at 5pm at Heartlands Hospital, please contact Sandra White, membership and community engagement manager, on 0121 424 1218 or email: membership@heartofengland.nhs.uk.
The Trust – which covers Heartlands Hospital, Solihull Hospital and Good Hope Hospital as well as some community based services – runs monthly health seminars to help raise awareness of a range of health conditions, as well as providing information about the treatment and support that is available.
