The free talk is taking place at Heartlands on Wednesday 22 July at 5pm with consultant diabetologist and clinical director, Dr Srikanth Bellary taking to the floor to outline new diabetes treatments including canagliflozin, a pill that can be taken once a day to help reduce blood sugar levels, and the exenatide injection which can lead to weight loss.

Dr Bellary said: “Birmingham has one of the highest rates of diabetes in the United Kingdom so it is important for us to work with the community to advise on how diabetes can be prevented and kept under control.

“The seminar is an opportunity for locals to learn about common treatments used to manage diabetes such as medications and insulin injections. The seminar is also a chance for attendees to seek advice on the symptoms of this common condition. I’m looking forward to hearing everyone’s thoughts and experiences of diabetes.”
