Weight management up for discussion at hospital talk

Heartlands HospitalLocals interested in learning more about how to prevent weight gain, have the chance to hear from a weight management specialist at a hospital talk this month.

With more than 1,000,000 adults in the West Midlands classed as obese, Helen Mercer, specialist dietitian and weight management service team leader for Solihull Community Services, will also be discussing the benefits of weight loss and making long-term lifestyle changes on 23 November at 5pm at Heartlands Hospital.

Helen said: “The risks of developing type 2 diabetes and other conditions such as heart disease and sleep apnoea, are reduced by achieving a modest level of weight loss. Losing weight doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive.

“I hope that by hosting the seminar, locals will be encouraged to come along to learn more about the benefits of losing weight.”

If you would like to attend the seminar, please contact Sandra White, membership and community engagement manager, on 0121 424 1218 or email: membership@heartofengland.nhs.uk.

The Trust – which covers Heartlands Hospital, Solihull Hospital and Good Hope Hospital as well as some community based services – runs monthly health seminars to help raise awareness of a range of health conditions, as well as providing information about the treatment and support that is available.
