Nurses made time for tea to raise awareness of dignity action day at Good Hope on Friday 7 February.
A team effort was made by staff at the Hospital to give patients tea, home-make cakes and biscuits and spend a little time with patients on wards 10 and 11 to highlight the importance of being respectful to vulnerable people. During the day, patients even treated staff to an impromptu waltz demonstration in the wards patient day room.
Donna Wooding, matron for aged care at Good Hope Hospital, said: “The day went very well and we received very positive comments from patients and staff.
Following the success of the Digni-Tea day, we are now planning to hold monthly sessions which volunteers and staff can get involved with. We have excellent staff on wards 10 and 11 and they thoroughly enjoyed the day along with the patients. Seeing the patients with dementia teaching staff and consultants to waltz was emotional and brought a tear to my eye.”
Organised by the National Dignity Council, the theme for this year’s campaign is “Have you got time for digni-tea?” and Dignity Champions are celebrating with activities and events in many settings across the country.
